Callistemonparks Australian PONIES
We have been breeding Australian Ponies for some years now, using our previous stud prefix ‘Karunda’ until it was inadvertently transferred with the family property some years ago. We now use the CALLISTEMON PARK prefix. Australian Pony Stud Book membership no. 20020.
Our first stud pony being Ardrossan Shaphire (Gidget), an intelligent bay mare, used regularly as a ponyclub mount and shown locally. Gidget, sadly, did not produce any foals as she met with a fatal accident when sent away to stud. She possessed the equivalent of cow sense, when used to muster sheep and would return straying stock to the flock without command from the rider. Gidget was followed by Geroa Blondie – a pony of excellent temperament and riding qualities – a capable and willing pony over obstacles and very comfortable to ride. She has produced a number of ponies for our stud over the years although only one granddaughter has been retained.
Presently we do not show our ponies and only breed stud stock occasionally, with only a few ponies registered in recent years. In this time we have breed a limited number of ponies from our Karunda and Callistemon Park prefix mares. Stud sire used in recent years is Loch Sloy Cavalier ( Lowlynn Silver cheif grandson) – a liver chestnut pony of approx. 12.1hh throwing ponies up to 13.3hh from larger mares. Cavalier has excellent movement, good lenght of rein and typey pony head and ears. He has passed these qualities on to his son, Callistemon Park Cavalcade, a grey stallion of approx. 13.3 hh, our resident sire.
Our pony’s breeding consists of many of the old fashioned bloodlines including Traveller’s Joy (sire of Croppa Travellers Joy) , Jalengla, Glenvalley, Mighty Fine and Lowlynn Silver Cheif.
